If you plan to use public transportation (bus or streetcar) while in New Orleans I would highly recommend downloading the new, free GoMobile 2.0 app available here. This allows you to view schedules in real time with great interactive maps. Plus you can buy tickets, thus avoiding pulling out cash in public.
One of the favorite things to do for visitors and locals alike is to catch a ride on the streetcar through town. Fortunately for guests of the Guesthouse, the nearest streetcar stop (#7646) is a 10 min (0.5 mi) walk away. The name of the line is the 48 Canal Streetcar City Park/Museum, and runs daily every 16 mins from about 6am until 4am. This line will take you all the way to Harrah's Casino near the Mississippi River, with multiple stops in the Downtown/CBD area and French Quarter.
If you are returning to the Guesthouse from the French Quarter/Downtown area then you have stops on nearly every block of Canal St to board the streetcar, starting from Harrah's Casino at the Mississippi River. You are again looking for the 48 Canal Streetcar City Park/Museum, and runs daily every 16 mins from about 6am until 4am.

The nearest public bus stop, featuring a direct line to the French Quarter, is a 4-minute walk from the Guesthouse. It is located at Fortier Park, on the corner of Esplanade Ave and Grande Route Saint John. You're looking for the 91 Jackson Esplanade bus.
This line runs daily, every half-hour, from about 5:30am to 10pm, and sometimes later. You can find the complete schedule and interactive map here. If you are heading to the French Quarter, you will want to take the 91 bus heading towards Rousseau at St. Andrew (Walmart). From there it takes between 10-20mins to arrive at multiple stops in the French Quarter along N Rampart St. The most central stop is #1044 (N Rampart at Conti St).
If you are leaving the French Quarter to return to the Guesthouse you have 3 options along N Rampart St to catch the 91 Jackson Esplanade bus: Stop #3376 (Conti St), Stop #1050 (St. Ann St), or the #1054 (Esplanade Ave at Treme St). The return ride to the Guesthouse should last between 10-20 mins, exiting at Stop #1065 (Grande Route Saint John).
Fortunately New Orleans boasts a robust Uber/Lyft/taxicab industry to get you to/from the Guesthouse. The correct address is 3320 DeSoto St.
In addition to providing our guests with bikes, the Guesthouse is a 3-minute walk to the nearest rental Blue Bike stand.
If you do have a car, there is usually abundant, free street parking directly in front of our house. However, during the multiple festivals near the Guesthouse it may not always be possible to park directly in front of the house. That said, it usually isn't much of a problem finding a spot very nearby.
